Concept / Spec Project

Premium Skincare

A speculative premium skincare Shopify experience exploring a quieter, more editorial approach to digital commerce. This project was designed as a concept to test ideas around visual restraint, generous whitespace and a product-led narrative in the Shopify ecosystem.

01

The Problem

Most skincare brands on Shopify fall into one of two categories: over-designed luxury that sacrifices usability, or template-based stores that sacrifice brand. We wanted to explore a third space — a Shopify storefront that felt truly editorial without losing any commerce functionality.

02

The Diagnosis

We audited over 30 premium skincare Shopify stores and identified consistent patterns: cluttered product pages, aggressive upselling, poor mobile typography, and cookie-cutter layouts that undermined brand positioning.

03

The Strategy

Design a Shopify storefront concept that prioritises the product and the brand narrative, using editorial design principles — generous whitespace, considered typography, and a restrained colour palette — while maintaining strong commerce fundamentals.

04

The Architecture

The concept is built on a modular section-based architecture with custom blocks for editorial content, product storytelling and ingredient breakdowns. Metaobjects structure the content layer, giving the brand full editorial control.

05

The Design

A minimal, image-led design language. Large product photography, restrained typography, and a palette limited to off-white, charcoal and a single accent. Every element serves either the narrative or the transaction — nothing decorative.

06

The Outcome

This remains a concept project, designed to explore ideas and demonstrate our approach to premium Shopify commerce. It informs how we think about editorial ecommerce and has shaped our process for real client work.
